Metaphoric construal and its effect on gaze behavior of the readers with better and worse working memory

Language creativity studies are now exploring new experimental methods which test the readers’ figurative thought. In current work, we address gaze behavior as contingent on language construal in two participants’ groups with different amount of working memory. We verify hypothesis that apart from metaphor types, novel and entrenched, is affected by patterns, here described parameters. The study specifies cognitive parameters Referent construal, Event Frame Perspective linguistic graphological, lexical syntactic construal. Regression analysis reveals several predictors steady decrease increase costs within participant groups. participants better memory display higher when lacks action or dynamics; whereas worse both including Clause-initial position for contrastive focus, Lexical synonyms antonyms, Spontaneous occasional event, Lack dynamics. also identified costs; Perception (Event type), Shifting / changing, Agentive participant, Intensifiers pre-position. Overall, pay more attention to metaphors, presumably, it creates additional affordances construal; at same time lower dynamicity produces shows irrespective type, patterns produce consistent costs, either increased decreased.
